Ingredients

Since "Natural" & "Organic" claims are not fully regulated nor enforced, it’s important to understand this and not be misled by the hype and hysteria that ALL natural ingredients are safe and that ALL synthetic ingredients are harmful. Safe synthetics do exist. Harmful synthetics can be avoided.

Our products will never include: dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane, nylon, polysobutene, bismuth oxycholoride, parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, carmine, talc, synthetic dyes: Yellow 5, Blue 1, Red 40, Red 7, Red 28 (derived from coal tar).

There will never be an official standard of what it means for a product to be CLEAN. With so many claims of “clean” and “natural”, we wanted to make sure you know how WE define clean.

Clean beauty for us is inclusive, meets ethical standards (no animal testing, sustainable business practices) and plant-based (essential oils, butter and plant waxes) non-toxic product formulations.

Plain Jane Beauty® chooses only mineral pigments that meet FDA regulations. For safety reasons, minerals cannot be used just as they come from the earth, as they contain heavy metals and are toxic; they must first be refined and processed, which technically makes all minerals used in makeup synthetic, but safe because all of the heavy metals and other toxins have been removed.

Everyone should have access to effective, non-toxic cosmetics that promote a sense of well-being. Using proven ingredients, we offer products without synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, or harmful preservatives. We are proud to show you what we are made of.

We provide full disclosure of our ingredients even when it is not required. For example, if there are “hidden” ingredients within an extract, that are there in order to preserve it, you will see it listed.

Did you know? Many extracts are made in a propylene or butyl glycol base and are themselves preserved with parabens, triclorisan or urea but not disclosed as the manufacturer is only required to list only the extract.

This way you can make an informed decision. We list it because you deserve to know. As a customer you are the heart of our business.
